Artist Statement
I can't remember a time when I didn't want to draw. So I grew up with dreams of attending the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. In the end, however, my practical side won out and I received my Bachelor's Degree in Business from Roosevelt University and went to work in the corporate world. I didn't give up the dream though, and eventually attended a few art classes and workshops, most recently studying with private art instructors. Working in reverse of the normal, I initially focused on figure drawing, wihch resulted in my charcoal nude series. Then my love of antiques and antique frames inspired me to draw vintage portraits, using family members and old-time photos as inspiration. My other passion, gardening, has led to my latest watercolor floral studies and still-life paintings, which feature both whimsical and realistic subjects using heavy doses of brilliant color mingled on the watercolor paper. I am now happiest working in the world of color and I hope to keep experimenting and daring to do the unexpected with watercolor paints!
